American Spirit just sired the Grand Overall Barrow at Texas National that was shown by Kekoa Taipin. That barrow was out of his very first litter, and what an incredible litter it was. A mate barrow shown by Harlie Deschaine won his class at NJSA Western Regional, as did a littermate gilt shown by Peyton Sciortino – she may be the most special one we’ve kept back in a few years.
The elite Teen Spirit son we’ve been trying to make! We’ve used Teen Spirit hard in our program and many of our very best young sows are Teen daughters. The Reserve Grand Barrow at Texas State Fair this year that we bred was also a Teen Spirit and in general, the athleticism, look, hair quality, and correctness of build from Teen has fit into our program exceptionally well.
We think American Spirit is a carbon copy of his sired with some added shape and a phenomenal sow line to back him up!
His dam 108-2 (On Target x Renig 28-8 x Perfect Remedy 4-8) is intensely linebred, highly productive, and no doubt one of our current cornerstone females within the program. Not to mention, she is the dam of the 5th Overall Crossbred Gilt at the 2018 World Pork Expo shown by the Utterback family that had a dominant run in Indiana that year and since has been cloned by the Hamby Haven program. We have tons of confidence in American Spirit and he will see lots of sows moving into the new year.
