The older I get the more blatantly obvious it is to me that breeding hogs isn’t about chasing the hype as much as it is knowing what you’re dealing with. Last spring, I was really impressed by the way Mike McCoy talked about his Tarantino daughters and their ability to be phenomenal sows maternally, but still raise his best show pigs. We used him on several litters for the summer of 2024, and were honestly shocked at how good the pigs were. Literally MOST of our best keeper gilts from that summer crop were Tarantino daughters and we also fed out three elite sons before we landed on this cat to add to the boar battery.
51 brings daddy’s rib cage, bone, flexibility of skeleton, massive chest, and skull to the table in what we’d like to think is a little sexier package. He’s short backed, big hipped, and ultra shapely and he was honestly never fed on for a show pig. What you see is what you get. We’ve put two equally as impressive littermate sisters back in the keeper pen as well.
While 51 is phenotypically very impressive, perhaps his best attributes are his mom and grandma — two big time good females that generated for us in the biggest ways and both were lost way too early. Grand dam 115-12 (Foresight x He is What He Is) was as impressive as it gets and out of the same sow as May We All. Dam 169-8 “Spammy” was our very best Coast to Coast daughter. There is a lot of productivity back in there on the momma’s side.
